Provider Course
The PHTLS Provider course is
designed to be an intensive 16-20 hour
experience. It is available to all
levels of pre-hospital care providers, and
programmes are typically attended by
Emergency First Responders (Fire, Police,
Search & Rescue, etc.), EMTs, Paramedics,
Nurses (including Industrial based
Occupational Health Nurses), Physicians, and
Physician Assistants.
The course is
scenario-based, with lectures and
interactive skills station components meant
to enhance the pre-hospital care providers’
knowledge, and further develop the critical
thinking skills required to effectively
treat the trauma patient in the field.
Instructor Course
The PHTLS
Instructor/Coordinator Workshop is designed
to be an intensive 8-hour course for those
individuals who have already successfully
completed a PHTLS provider course. A
3-day version is available, combining
provider and instructor components.
This course is designed
to train instructor candidates for
conducting provider and refresher courses on
the latest philosophies and techniques.
Individuals selected to attend this workshop
will typically be experienced instructors,
coordinators, or administrators with proven
clinical skills at a minimum of the EMT-B
level.
Refresher Course
The PHTLS Refresher
course is designed to be an 8-hour workshop
and incorporates interactive teaching
sessions and evaluation stations.
Candidates who wish to participant in a
refresher course much have successfully
completed a PHTLS or BTLS provider course
within the last 4 years prior to the course.
Recognition of successful completion for
PHTLS provider and Refresher courses is for
4 years.
Transitional Trauma Instructor Course
The Trauma Instructor
Transitional program is an 8 hour workshop
geared to accommodate those individuals who
hold Instructor status in a recognized
continuing education trauma programme, and
who want to make the change and join the
annals of PHTLS Faculty from around the
world. It is designed to take advantage of
the participants present teaching experience
and talents while exposing them to the
necessary skills, philosophies and
administrative practice that are unique to
PHTLS. For further information
