Safety & Personal Defense The 4- hour
course is designed to increase participants’ awareness of personal
safety protection through lecture of personal safety practices and
demonstration of simple self defense techniques. Students will be
provided with techniques to defend and neutralize these assaults
both on their feet and on the ground. Students can try the simple
skills under instruction if they wish during the course of
instruction. The 6 hour course is an expanded version of the 4 hour
course designed to allow for more student participation in acquiring
the physical skills.
Course Overview:
The course will
span preventative psychology, survival awareness and develop defense
strategies with identification and profiling of potential stranger
offenders. Additionally, with domestic violence being a leading
cause of injuries to women ages 15-44), the course will
explore the importance of understanding powerful communication
skills in preventing advance of aggressors from verbal attack to
physical assault Defensive tactics strategies for incident
response management will be covered for the participants through
voluntary participation. A personal security and safety devices
display and discussion will also be included. Just by having a plan,
some good training and changing your mind set from, “it won’t happen
to me” or “if it happens to me”, to “When it happens” can have
drastic effect on the outcome of an assault. It could mean the
difference of “fighting a loosing battle” or “being the winner of
the fight”.

INSTRUCTORS BIOS

Kat Kelley
State Law Enforcement
officer/Instructor
Kat Kelley is currently working in her 27th year as a law
enforcement officer with a state agency in Florida. An expert
witness in the area of training and use-of force, she is a long-time
accomplished instructor recognized at local, state and national
levels. Currently, the lead defensive tactics instructor at Central
Florida Community College Criminal Justice Academy in Ocala,
Florida, she is also on the FDLE Defensive Tactics Task Force
charged with creating the new recruit and instructor courses.
Holding a Master’s Degree in Education, with her course work in
psychomotor skill acquisitions, her past accomplishments include
holding the editor position of The Law Enforcement Trainer
magazine. Kat is additionally known throughout the United States for
her area of expertise in training and equipping the female officer
for survival and gender-specific areas of communication.

Chris Scaglione Ocala Police Officer/Instructor
Chris Scaglione is currently working in his 17th
year as a police officer with Ocala Police Department. A SWAT
officer, he assists in departmental training development and
implementation as well as writing Use of Force policy. Chris is a
long-time accomplished instructor recognized at local, state and
national levels. A back-up lead instructor at Central Florida
Community College Criminal Justice Academy in Ocala, Florida, he is
also a defensive tactics subject matter expert with FDLE. Currently
he holds the position of Chairman of the Board for the Florida
Public Service Association through the Florida Department of
Education. His areas of expertise include Taser, Firearms, Tactical
Ground Fighting and SWAT entry and close quarter tactics.
